When news broke earlier that Robinson Cano got a fat $240 million deal for 10-years with the Seattle Mariners, there was no doubting that rookie superstar sports agent Jay Z was the mastermind behind it.
However, things might’ve not gone down as smoothly as we thought. According to the New York Daily News, the Brooklyn legend infuriated Mariners president Howard Lincoln when he made him a counter offer that he just didn’t like.
This comes according to NYDN:
“Cano and his camp arrived in Seattle with what sources described as basically an eight-year deal for $200 million in hand and the assurances that Seattle would go to nine years and $225 million. But when Jay Z then upped the ante to 10 years for $252 million, Mariners president Howard Lincoln apparently ‘exploded,’ according to one of the sources, and ended the meeting.
You aren’t going to be able to mindf*ck everyone in this game, Jay. But the offer they settled on isn’t too bad either. Just a twelve million dollar difference? He’ll make that up in his next endorsement.
