Jets Sign Braylon Edwards After He Called Them ‘Idiots’

Last week, then-Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Braylon Edwards said the Jets had “idiots” running the team. On Tuesday, those same “idiots” decided they wanted Edwards back on their team, as the Jets claimed Edwards off waivers.

Taking a different tone than his previous Twitter rant, which was a defense of embattled Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, Edwards tweeted Tuesday: “It feels great to be going home. Thanks to all of jet nation that continuously supported me and pushed for me. I’m back and it’s go timr (sic)”

Edwards apologized for his previous tweet, in which he wrote, “Don’t blame Sanchez. I played there. Blame the idiots calling shots. Mark is a beast and will probe (sic) it when given a proper chance”

Like Sanchez, Edwards has struggled this year. In 10 games (eight starts) for the Seahawks, he totaled just eight receptions for 74 yards and one touchdown.

Sanchez and Edwards were teammates in 2009 and 2010, and Edwards finished with a combined 88 catches for 1,445 yards and 11 touchdowns those years. In 2011, Edwards had just 15 receptions for 181 yards and no touchdowns for the San Francisco 49ers.
Seattle signed Edwards on July 31, and he made the team over Terrell Owens.

The Jets were in need of another receiver due to injuries. Stephen Hill sustained a strained lateral collateral ligament in his right knee Sunday. The team lists Hill’s status as day-to-day. Clyde Gates has missed consecutive games due to a concussion, and Santonio Holmes was lost for the season Sept. 30 due to a left foot injury.
