José Fernández's Pregnant Girlfriend Steps Out To Say Goodbye In Somber Pics
On Wednesday, José Fernández's pregnant girlfriend made her first public appearance since the Miami Marlins pitcher's death.
Maria Arias was seen in Coconut Grove, Florida attending Fernández's funeral along with his teammates.
The 24-year-old, who is approximately four months pregnant with Fernández's child, was seen dressed in all black standing with the athlete's family.
That day, the Marlins team along with several officials commemorated the pitcher outside Marlins Park before sending the hearse to Brendan's Catholic Church.
The Church opened the viewing to the public at 5 pm on Wednesday.
A video shared by the MailOnline shows Fernández's friends, family and teammates wearing Marlins jerseys as they head to the funeral.
The footage also shows his teammates walking beside the casket wearing matching T-shirts in honor of Fernández.
The men paid their respects as hundreds of fans lined up to enter the church.
As previously reported by Elite Daily, José Fernández was tragically killed in a boat accident along with two friends on Sunday morning.
The two other men have been identified as 27-year-old Emilio Macias and 25-year-old Eduardo Rivero.
Both families of the men have set up GoFundMe pages to help pay for funeral expenses. The Braddock Senior High alumni Facebook group identified both Macias and Rivero as former students.
Just one week ago, Fernández shared a photo on Instagram of his pregnant girlfriend along with a sweet message.
He wrote,
I'm so glad you came into my life. I'm ready for where this journey is gonna take us together. #familyfirst
Fernandez reportedly ended things with cheerleader Carla Mendoza in April before forming a relationship with Maria Arias.
Arias became pregnant just a few weeks after they started dating.
Two days ago, Mendoza wrote an emotional tribute to her ex-fiancé on Instagram, sharing her love and support for Maria.
