JR Smith is the definition of a chuck. When his shots are hitting, there’s no one hotter in the game. New Yorkers love him and for this reason here, he won NBA Sixth Man of the Year averaging, 18.1 points and 5.3 rebounds a game coming off the bench this season.

However when his shots aren’t hitting, he is off. And I mean OFF. He was a no-show for the Knicks during their 2013 Playoff run as their struggles could be directly attributed to JR’s performance. Essentially, he went from toast of the town to potentially being run out of the city. By Twitter f*ckboys of course.

After opting out of his current contract with New York, it appears that Smith will be testing out his value in the free agent market. This was a move the Knicks were expecting to be made as he would have done it even if he was re-signing with the Knicks. A strategic business move to assure that he capitalizes on his monster season.

But just one day after the 2013 NBA Draft, JR posted a pretty encryptic message 426,000-plus Twitter followers. Amid speculation that he is thinking about signing with the Phonix Suns or Miami Heat, he said this:

That sounds a lot like it’s the end of “Swish” in New York. There is quite literally nothing else he could be talking about in this tweet than his beloved #Knickstape. Sure he loves playing in New York (where he grew up in nearby New Jersey), but as we all know this is a business. It’s all about the money and if the Knicks aren’t willing to pay up, he will get his bread elsewhere.

A real shocker considering it was previously reported that he signed a four-year extension and even admitted wanting to retire as a Knick. But things change and even though he sent this follow-up Tweet out, we all know what’s really good JR.

Why This Generation Is So Completely Obsessed With The Idea Of Celebrity

Arguably, Generation-Y’s defining characteristic is its obsession with celebrity. We created the Frankensteinian monster that is Kim Kardashian. We made stars out of lowly housewives who behave like children. We turned Beyoncé into a golden calf — a false idol whom many of us are only too eager to kneel before (please don’t kill me, […]
