Knicks’ Stoudemire Practices, Says He’s Still ‘Doubtful’

Forward Amare Stoudemire practiced with the New York Knicks on Friday for the first time since suffering lacerations on his left hand after Game 2 on Monday. Stoudemire participated in shooting drills, dunked and palmed the ball with his injured hand, according to ESPNNY.com. He wore padding and a large bandage on the hand. 

He said he wasn’t sure if he could play in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference first-round playoff series with the Miami Heat on Sunday.

“It’s still doubtful,” Stoudemire said. “(I’ve) still got to make sure the reaction off today’s practice is not severe. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow, and even after tomorrow. … So I’m gonna be doubtful probably until up to game time.”

Stoudemire suffered the injury when he hit the glass casing of a fire extinguisher after the Knicks lost Game injured his hand after hitting the glass case of a fire extinguisher in frustration after the Knicks’ Game 2 Monday. He did not play in the Game 3 loss Thursday.

He said the cut nearly severed nerve in his hand.

“It was a pretty significant cut. I feel extremely blessed in the situation (because) the cut was a millimeter away from a nerve,” Stoudemire said. ” … I feel great that I’m able to get back on the basketball court and still run and play and use my hand, off an incident that wasn’t on purpose, just a reaction out of losing a game, (it) almost cost me my hand.
