Lindsey Vonn Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery
Four-time world champion skier Lindsey Vonn underwent successful surgery on Sunday to repair a torn anterior-cruciate ligament and medial-collateral ligament in her knee, the U.S. ski team announced.
Vonn, who also broke a bone in her lower leg, was injured last week during the super-G in Schladming, Austria.
The surgery was performed by Dr. Bill Sterett in Vail, Colo., and although he said it was too early to predict when she might return to competition, he said he is optimistic she will make a full recovery.
“The overall success rate for ACL/MCL surgery is very good. Modern surgical techniques combined with aggressive rehabilitation will help Lindsey make a full recovery”
“She will do everything in her power to return as quickly as possible to competitive skiing.”
Vonn, 28, had taken a break for a month to recover after suffering from an intestinal illness in November.
