Messi Breaks Record For Most Goals In A Year, Scoring His 86th

Lionel Messi broke the record for most goals in a year by scoring his 86th goal in Barcelona’s 2-1 victory over Real Betis in Barcelona, Spain, on Sunday. 

Messi, 25, scored both goals Sunday and broke the 40-year-old record held by Gerd Mueller of Germany. Messi tied Mueller’s mark in the 16th minute, then broke it with a left-footed shot nine minutes later.

Messi has scored 74 goals for Barcelona and 12 for Argentina in 2012, and he still has three games left.
