The daughter of former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher, who committed suicide on Dec. 1 after killing his girlfriend, will be financially supported by the NFL.

Three-month-old Zoey is the daughter of Belcher and Kasandra Perkins, whom Belcher shot early Saturday before killing himself at the Chiefs’ practice facility. Authorities said she was at home when Belcher killed Perkins then bent over her body to apologize and kiss her on the forehead. After that, Belcher kissed Zoey as well before fleeing the house.

Belcher’s mother said Perkins was barely conscious but seemed to be hearing what she was saying. The couple had argued in their bedroom when Belcher fired up to nine bullets into her body.

Belcher reportedly called Chiefs General Manager Scott Pioli and asked him to meet him so he could thank him for everything he had done for him. Belcher asked Pioli to see that both he and Chiefs owner Clark Hunt took care of his daughter, Zoey, who was born Sept. 11.

According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, as part of the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement, Zoey’s guardian or her estate will receive $9,000 per month over the next four years, which amounts to $109,000 per year. In the fifth year, she’ll receive $48,000. From then on, she’ll be given $52,000 per year each year until she turns 18 or 23, depending on whether she goes to college.

According to multiple media sources, the relationship between Belcher and Perkins had been strained, with constant arguments over things like money. The Chiefs were reportedly providing counseling for Belcher.

Officials released Monday audio recordings in response to requests under the Missouri Sunshine Law. The recordings show police dispatchers handling a multitude of calls and assignments in a short period of time Saturday morning after Belcher snapped. Click here to read more.

The first 911 call came about 7:50 a.m. from Belcher’s distraught mother.

Belcher’s infant daughter could be heard crying in the background during part of the call, which Kansas City police attorneys edited.

Zoey is currently in the custody of her grandmother, Belcher’s mother.

Don’t Call Me Crazy: How This ‘C’ Word Is Continually Used To Hold Women Back

We should all know by now, when it comes to women, even the most innocuous words can be laden with separate and often disparaging meanings. Whereas young boys are called commanding, girls are stuck with the negative label “bossy.” Whereas “man up” implies strength and power, acting “like a girl” means being wimpy and inferior. […]

This College Application From 1922 Shows The Process Has Always Been Crazy (Photo)

If you thought the college application process was absurd now, check out this college application from 1922, which asks questions like “Is your health good?” and if you’d like to study “domestic science,” whatever that means. This single-paged, no-essay application, albeit with slightly invasive questions, makes me wish I could go back in time and study at Elon. […]
