Rafael Van Der Vaart Set To Leave Tottenham For Hamburg

It appears Rafael van der Vaart is heading back to Hamburg. Talks between the German Bundesliga side and Tottenham are still ongoing, but the attacking midfielder is already en route to his medical testing, according to Yahoo Sports.

The report states enough common ground has been found between Tottenham’s asking price and Hamburg’s offer to start the process of getting the deal ready for finalization. The teams have to move quickly on transfer deadline day.

Van Der Vaart has spent the last two seasons at White Hart Lane after joining Tottenham from Real Madrid. The 29-year-old Dutch star scored 28 goals in 78 games across all competitions for Spurs during his time with the club.

It would be just the latest of many changes to Tottenham’s midfield this summer. Steven Pienaar, Niko Kranjcar and Luka Modric all moved on to other teams while manager Andre Villas-Boas brought in Moussa Dembele and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Sigurdsson will probably serve as the replacement for Van Der Vaart unless Tottenham are able to pull off another deal before the window closes. There’s always a flurry of action leading up to the deadline, so it’s not until the dust settles that it will be clear what the plan is.

For Van Der Vaart, it’s a chance to rejoin the team where he reached star status. After starting his career with Ajax, he moved to Hamburg and started showing off the immense talent he had to jump-start an offense.

With Tottenham clearly in a stage of transition as Villas-Boas makes changes he believes will upgrade the squad, going back to a situation he already knows is a great option for Van Der Vaart.

There are still a couple of hurdles to jump before Van Der Vaart officially joins Hamburg, but it seems like a formality at this point unless something unexpected occurs during his medical.

To be honest, I can relate to young Daniel Green (who has recently stolen the league’s spotlight as San Antonio’s clutch young marksman). As a fellow Long Islander, I can empathize with the whole “WTF-am-I-doing-at-this-club” mentality that Danny so effortlessly flaunts here at LeBron James’ birthday party (as Cavalier teammates back in 2010). Olajuwon Back Again With STAT Shooting In The Gym

Look, Knick fans. I get it, the Amar’e Stoudemire saga is getting quite stale. Sadly, there’s not much anyone can do about it, except maybe Amar’e Stoudemire — with the help of, yep you guessed it, everybody’s favorite post-tutor, Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon. It’s pretty simple. The Knicks can’t really do anything with Amar’e Stoudemire [...]
