While the New York Jets’ season circled the drain, much of the focus remained on the team’s quarterback situation. Mark Sanchez played poorly, and Tim Tebow almost never played.

There was a big hole on the other side of the ball, though, as the star cornerback Darrelle Revis missed 14 of 16 games due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

That hole might need to be filled permanently, as new general manager John Idzik will field trade offers for Revis in the offseason, CBS Sports reported.

According to the website, Jets owner Woody Johnson is reluctant to give Revis a long-term deal coming off his injury. Revis reportedly will earn $6 million in salary and bonuses this year, the last season of his four-year, $46 million contract.

The thinking behind trading him now is to get something of value for him before he can walk away as a free agent.

Revis played two of the season’s first three games, but he ultimately underwent season-ending knee surgery Oct. 16.

Known for his lockdown coverage that led to his part of the field being called “Revis Island,” Revis made the Pro Bowl each of the past four years before his injury-shortened 2012 season. He had 14 interceptions in 48 games over his first three seasons, but with opposing teams becoming disinclined to throw in his direction, he has just five interceptions in 31 games the past three years.
