Reports: Andy Reid To Be Named Arizona Cardinals Head Coach

Andy Reid is reportedly on his way to becoming the Arizona Cardinals next coach. The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Tuesday that “it is a done deal” and KTVK-TV in Phoenix reported that Reid is “very close” to being named the Cardinals’ coach.

ESPN also reported that there is a “95 percent” chance that Reid will be hired by Arizona.

However, the Arizona Republic said the Cardinals are denying both reports and plan to continue interviewing possible candidates for their vacant coaching and general manager positions.

Reid was fired Monday as coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Cardinals’ job opened up when Ken Whisenhunt was dismissed the same day, as was general manager Rod Graves.

Reid coached Philadelphia for 14 years and was let go after a 4-12 season.

Team officials said they interviewed defensive coordinator, Ray Horton, on Tuesday. The interview satisfies the Rooney Rule which requires NFL teams to interview minorities for head-coaching jobs.

Reid is due to interview for the Arizona job on Thursday, according to NFL Network’s Albert Breer.

Suspecting he would be fired by the Eagles, Reid had already started putting together a coaching staff for the 2013 season. According to reports, Cleveland Browns castoffs with a history with Reid who could join him including Pat Shurmur, Brad Childress and general manager Tom Heckert.

Reid has several reasons for his interest in the job. His wife, Tammy, is from the Phoenix area.

He would also be reunited with quarterback Kevin Kolb, whom he drafted and coached in Philadelphia. Team president Michael Bidwill said this week he still believes that Kolb can be an effective starter in the NFL.
