Because of the NHL lockout, owners lost roughly 15-20 home games worth of revenue and players lost about 40% of their 2012-13 salary. But the biggest losers in the lockout were fan bases and “common” people across the country who depend on hockey to make a living.

With the lockout ending early Sunday morning, it will be interesting to see if fans flock back to arenas when the season starts in the middle of next week.  It will be interesting to see what teams do with ticket prices or if there is any sort of recognition toward the fans.

Sabres goalie Ryan Miller acknowledged that the players and owners have to make up ground when it comes to winning back the fans’ allegiance.  Through text message with Adam Benigni of WGRZ in Buffalo, he apologized to the fans of Western New York:

“It is so poor that we wasted 34 games for each club and have alienated our fans and sponsors. An apology doesn’t really help right now but I would like to start somewhere with our fans, especially in Buffalo. I am sorry.”

For the diehard hockey fan, an apology probably isn’t necessary as their hockey thirst is about to be quenched.  But for casual fans, the apology isn’t/shouldn’t be enough.

It’s pretty sickening to think that it took months to come to nearly the same agreement that could have occurred in July.  To the casual fan, the NHL has a PR nightmare on its hands and although a simple “I’m sorry” won’t suffice, it is a small step in the right direction.

It’s nice to see Miller step up.  And if the league and players’ association had any clue (we know they don’t), they’d have Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Quick and Pavel Datsyuk at least doing the same.

A Healthy Derrick Rose’s Bulls Are Better Than LeBron James’ Cavs

This time, we should know better. If there’s one thing sports has consistently taught us over the years, it’s that super teams do not work like magic. Recent history speaks for itself. Gary Peyton and Karl Malone joining Shaq and Kobe didn’t hand the 2004 Lakers an NBA title. Acquiring an ungodly amount of talent, headlined by […]

Russell Westbrook’s Broken Hand Will Certainly Not Help OKC’s Season

When one door closes, another opens. Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. Despite that being what I’ve learned about life opportunities, I’m having trouble looking on the bright side of Russell Westbrook’s newly broken hand. When a particularly tricky brand of broken foot put Kevin Durant out of commission a few weeks ago, a […]

Comic Perfectly Captures How Feminism Is Actually Great For Everyone

Feminism is not simply a label. It’s the way you talk about women’s bodies every day and the negative words that make it seem like being a woman is shameful. Japanese comic artist Rasenth believes feminism is for everyone, and he’s ready to explain why. When Elliot Rodger went on a killing spree in California last […]

Man Makes Film About Small Penis After Girlfriend Dumps Him Because Of It

Patrick Moote has a small penis and, what’s worse, is well-known for it. Moote caught the media’s attention in 2012, when a viral video showed his girlfriend rejecting his proposal on camera at a UCLA basketball came. When he asked her for an explanation, she said his manhood just wasn’t doing enough for her. So, […]

Reading ‘Anaconda’ As Spoken Word Poetry Doesn’t Make It Any Classier (Video)

Popular music isn’t typically known for its introspective lyrics and experimental production because when people are trying to have a good time, they tend to avoid songs about overlooked crimes against humanity performed in 11/4 time. Instead, they tend to gravitate toward songs with nostalgic samples, sexually charged lyrics and even racy music videos. Nicki […]

‘SNL’ Reminds White People That Their Reign Is Almost Over (Video)

If you’ve been paying attention to history for the past 1,000 years, you’ve probably noticed that white people have always kind of run the world by harnessing an amazing strategy known as “sheer numbers and shameless oppression.” It’s estimated that Caucasians will technically be a minority in the United States within the next few decades, […]
