The NFL came down hard on the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday. Saints coach Sean Payton has been suspended for one year, former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was suspended indefinitely, general manager Mickey Loomis was suspended for eight regular-season games, the team was fined $500,000 and lost two second-round draft picks (one in 2012 and ’13) as a result of a bounty program conducted by the team during the 2009-11 seasons.

Details of an NFL investigation released at the beginning on March reported that the Saints’ bounty program gave thousands of dollars in payoffs to players for hits that knocked targeted opponents out of games. The NFL said the amounts reached their height in 2009, the season the Saints won the Super Bowl.

The league said between 22 and 27 Saints defensive players were involved in the program.

Williams, now defensive coordinator of the Rams, has admitted to and apologized for running the program.

Payton and Loomis apologized and took the blame for violations that “happened under our watch,” but not until almost a week after the NFL pointed to them for failing to stop the program.

Goodell has frequently taken a hard line on any action that threatens player safety. He suspended Detroit’s Ndamukong Suh for two games for stomping on an opponent last season; banned Pittsburgh’s James Harrison for one game after a series of flagrant hits that culminated in a collision with Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy’s helmet; and has ramped up the amount of fines for what the league terms “egregious hits.”

Goodell fined the New England Patriots $250,000 and their coach, Bill Belichick, $500,000 for the Spygate scandal in 2007, when the team was caught illegally videotaping the Jets’ sideline. New England also was stripped of a first-round draft pick.

If WWE Raw Were A Sitcom, This Would Be The Perfect Intro (Video)

We already know that professional wrestling is the greatest soap opera on television, but what if matches actually had the cheesy sitcom intros? The WWE did a brilliant job of creating one for Monday Night Raw and it’s surprisingly perfect. With John Cena and AJ Lee as stars, this would probably be a show worth […]

Richard Sherman And Patrick Peterson Wage War Over Cornerback Supremacy

This past weekend, the Arizona Cardinals made cornerback Patrick Peterson the highest-paid NFL player of his position. The five-year, $70 million extension barely eclipsed the annual money given to divisional rival Richard Sherman of the Seattle Seahawks. These two have strong careers and are perhaps the best corners in the league — and they know it. […]

TBT: When Going Across The Middle In The NFL Was Suicide (Video)

Being a wide receiver in the National Football League during the 90s required only one thing: balls of steel. Sure, strong hands, precise route running and a big physical body helped, but when it came to crossing over the middle, you could expect a big collision every single time. Rule changes have since protected offensive players […]

There’s Not Much To Soften The Blow In This Bikini Fail Compilation

If the movie “Idiocracy” is any indication, there are two things that people will never get tired of. The first is anything vaguely related to sex. The second is laughing at videos of people injuring themselves. This video has a little bit of both. I never would have thought there would be enough videos of […]

Don’t Call Me Crazy: How This ‘C’ Word Is Continually Used To Hold Women Back

We should all know by now, when it comes to women, even the most innocuous words can be laden with separate and often disparaging meanings. Whereas young boys are called commanding, girls are stuck with the negative label “bossy.” Whereas “man up” implies strength and power, acting “like a girl” means being wimpy and inferior. […]

12 Things We Can All Start Doing To Get Rid Of The Hook-Up Culture

I was once the frontrunner of the hook-up culture our generation has created. OK, I may be exaggerating a bit, but when you stop counting how many people you’ve slept with – or lose count – it’s probably a sign that you’re stuck in the pointless cycle that is our hook-up culture. Sure, sex is […]
