Sloane Stephens defeated Serena Williams, advances to Australian Open Semis. Sloane Stephens has arrived. She’s 19, ranked 25th in the world, and Tuesday she beat Serena Williams in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.

With this defeat, Sloane became the first American player younger than Serena to ever hand her a loss.

Serena, who suffered a back injury during the second set and had to take an injury timeout, might take this “L” kind of hard. She is Sloane’s tennis idol, and has become a mentor to her and Sloane played her tough.

However, looking for Sloane to supplant the Williams sisters, and more pointedly, Serena, as the next big thing may be premature; but she’s certainly carving her own place on the circuit.

She has yet to win a singles title, but we can expect to see her dominate in years to come, and I think sooner than later.

Stephens will face No. 1 ranked Victoria Azarenka in the semi finals. The other semi-finals match with be between Maria Sharapova and Li Na.

According to NHL commissioner Gary Bettman, there are absolutely no plans of expansion, or sale of a current franchise, to relocate to a new city. This, of course, contradicts recent reports suggesting the NHL is thinking about extending new teams into new markets: Las Vegas, Seattle and Quebec City, as well as a second franchise […]

5 Types Of Girls You’re Sure To Meet In The Ladies’ Room On A Night Out

Every person goes out on Saturday night with a motive, whether it’s to find a rebound, an excuse to wear that new outfit or simply to get forget-your-name drunk (because it’s fun and you’re good at it). I typically go out with three intentions: to have a good time, to practice my Taylor-Swift-bad dance moves […]

Will The Broncos’ Defense Carry The Team To A Second Consecutive Super Bowl?

The Broncos made some boss moves this past summer. DeMarcus Ware, arguably one of the best pass rushers of all time, will attack the backfield like nobody’s business. Hard-hitting safety TJ Ward flies around with reckless abandon, and I feel bad for any receiver who has to go across the middle against him. Aqib Talib […]
