UFC 140: Jones Vs. Machida

A very confident champion and a determined No. 1 contender both came in on weight Friday, during the official weigh-in for UFC 140. Jon Jones (14-1), the youngest light heavyweight champion in the promotion’s history, came in right at the 205-pound limit.

The challenger, and former champion, Lyoto Machida (17-2) weighed 204 pounds.

“This is an awesome opportunity against an awesome opponent,” Jones said. “I’m grateful for the whole situation. I can’t wait to go out there and make a statement.”

Veteran lightweight Dennis Hallman (50-14-2) was the only fighter scheduled for Saturday’s event that failed to make weight. He did not attempt a second cut after initially weighing in at 158.5 pounds and will forfeit a percentage of his purse.

His opponent, undefeated John Makdessi (9-0), weighed-in at 155.5 pounds.

In a co-main event matchup, Frank Mir (15-5) weighed in at a heavy 260 pounds for his rematch against 239-pound Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (33-6-1).

Former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (16-9-1) came in at 206 pounds and clearly had the crowd behind him for his bout against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (19-5), who came in at 204.5 pounds.

Was JR Smith Yayed Out Throughout The Entire NBA Playoffs?

Nobody ever said capturing the elusive O’Brien Trophy was an easy task. Having said that — blowing copious amounts of “snow” during the second round of the NBA Playoffs doesn’t make the quest for that “ice” (and basketball immortality) any easier. Everyone needs a “do-over” at some point. The other day, for example, as I [...]
