JR Smith is coming off the best regular season of his nine-year career. He has been playing out of his mind and was a big part of the Knicks success leading up to the playoffs where New York was able to land an impressive second seed in the east.
Hell he even walked away with Sixth Man of the Year award as a testament to his stellar play and contributions to a revitalized franchise and city. However it seems like a lot of this magic he once had has seemingly been lost since entering the postseason. It’s apparent that Smith just hasn’t had the same kind of impact he once had just weeks ago.
And while pretty much any other player to be in slump like this would go undetected, JR commands a certain amount of attention and notice with everything he does. That’s in most part due to the fact that he is a wild boy. However he is also one of the streakiest players in the league and is wildly inconsistent. When he’s on he’s on but when he’s off… you know.
So what can be acreddited to his lack of focus and execution on the court lately? Well for one he has been going out. A lot. New York nightlife often gets the best of some people and JR might be suffering from this exact crisis.
However now things have taken a turn for the worse as he was seen spotted at the most ratchet club in NYC, Greenhouse, with none other than Rihanna. On a Tuesday of course! While we all know they had a little fling last season, it appears they are now back together hooking up as the pair was seen together throughout the entire night. They were even snapped together in the same shot. Very rare.
So what does JR not get? You can’t be partying at the clubs every night, especially when the playoffs are on the line. There is going to be plenty of time to celebrate if you can focus and win a title, so stop getting distracted!
And of all people Rihanna? This godless jezebel has single-handedly taken down both the sports and music industry! Why are you getting caught up with all of that? The last thing we need is for Drake or Chris Brown to throw a bottle of Ace of Spades at you. Then you’ll be wearing a stupid protective mask for the rest of the year.
Until JR can buckle down and fix his game, we will surely keep seeing these poor performances. Iman Shumpert has already stepped up as the better option so far in this postseason and JR better step it up if he wants to keep his minutes. Because as we all know, if he starts hitting his shots again it’s going to be a wrap.
But until then, JR if going to have to lay off the sauce. Knicks coach Mike Woodson said it best himself in game 2 against the Indiana Pacers. “JR Godammit!”
