K.W. Colyard

Kristian Wilson Colyard (she/they) is a books features writer at Bustle, where she covers everything from fan-favorite page-to-screen adaptations to the seemingly neverending wait for 'The Winds of Winter.' They’re a sucker for queer SFF, enemies-to-lovers romantic plots, analyses of Internet and fandom cultures, and coffee table books. Kristian holds a Master of Arts in English from Clemson University, where her thesis, which examines Charlotte and Branwell Brontë's juvenilia as early fantasy literature, won the Fred W. Shilstone Memorial Annual Award in 2020. They teach first-year composition at a local university. Her nonfiction has been published at Elite Daily, Nameberry, Tor.com, and elsewhere, and her short fiction has appeared in Clarkesworld and Diabolical Plots. After growing up weird in a one-caution-light town in the Appalachian foothills, Kristian now lives in an old textile city with their husband, cats, and the Dashwood sisters — a.k.a. their houseplants. She collects books, teeth, and rocks; watches an excessive amount of 'Jeopardy!,' 'Frasier,' and Broadway musicals; and regularly plays Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and a variety of board and video games. They haven’t met a cryptid yet, but they’re a firm believer in Mothman, the Jersey Devil, and the Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus.
