How To Pull An All-Nighter During Finals Week Without Drinking Coffee

by Leigh Weingus

It's that time of year again. Summer is so close, you can taste it, but you have five massive finals to get through first.

Although I'm a huge proponent of drinking coffee (it's packed with antioxidants, makes you smarter and may help you live longer), there are tons of other ways to get a burst of energy when you really need it.

Don't believe me? The ASAPScience video above lists seven, and they're all pretty solid tips.

One not-so-pleasant example: a cold shower. You may not enjoy it while it's happening, but research shows a few minutes under some ice cold water will increase your alertness. Exercising is a good option, too, as it increases blood flow and makes you feel happy.

If both of those options sound like way too much effort, try opening your curtains (you can even sleep with your curtains open if it's dark enough in your bedroom) so you wake up naturally by sunlight.

You can also try listening to music or adding a cup of orange juice to your morning routine. Orange juice is packed with flavonoids, a group of plant metabolites that increase alertness.

And don't forget a filling, healthy breakfast. Nope, doughnuts don't count.

Now, get out there and ace those finals!
