If there were an awards ceremony each year for high/low designer collaborations, Target would most certainly take the cake. Who would have thought that a store that sells food and cleaning products would also churn out fashion collaborations with the best and brightest in the industry?

Always looking to top themselves, Target has just announced its latest designer collaboration: New York based designer Phillip Lim is working on a collection due out in Target stores this September.

The fall-appropriate collection will consist of about 100 items for both men and women, including apparel, shoes, bags and travel accessories. The pieces in this collection will range in price from $19.99 to $299.99 for apparel and $19.99 to $59.99 for accessories.

Phillip Lim was quoted in a release saying,

“Since an early age, I’ve been intrigued by the idea of design evolution. One of the reasons I wanted to collaborate with Target is because I felt that together we could create a collection that would inspire – one that is cool and chic, but still very accessible.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, Lim has been hesitant to work with the mass retailer for some time, calling the negotiations a “courtship for five years.” Reasons as to why he was hesitant to begin a collaboration are unknown, especially since designer collaborations with Target always do well.

“For us, a little tiny brand, there’s a lot more at stake working with Target,” he said. This time, he felt he had enough success on his own to do it. “I wanted to go in and say, ‘I don’t need to do this, but I would like to.”

Thanks for finally caving! Fashionistas everywhere no doubt will be anticipating the in-store and online September 15 release of the collection.
