One Billion Rising

by Ally Batista

One Billion Rising is a movement to end violence against women. It is calling itself a global strike and inviting women everywhere to dance this Valentines’ Day, February 14, 2013.

One in three women is a victim of abuse. There are approximately three billion women on this planet, meaning that one billion of them will be raped or beaten at some point in their lifetimes.

One Billion Rising is asking people everywhere to join together, get up, and dance. They want to literally shake the earth and let women know that there are people who are willing to stand up against violence.

One Billion Rising is calling this a Revolution. All it takes to get involved is signing up for a location near you, and dancing. Ask your friends and your family to join you in your demand to end violence against women.

Even Anne Hathaway is participating. She is a major advocate against abuse, and proudly shows her support on the January 2013 cover of Glamour magazine.
