The Newest Way Gyms Are Guilting You Into Not Working Out

We’ve all been members of a gym before. Whether you consistently frequent your gym, that you pay for, or not, is your business, isn’t it? If you’re paying for your gym membership and attending, great, you’re getting your money’s worth.

If you’re paying for a gym membership and not attending, well, that’s your prerogative isn’t it? Well, some gyms don’t really pay attention to that. There has been several reported cases of gyms actually charging you if you don’t show up.

Seems a little ridiculous, until you think about why they’re doing it: to motivate you to come. Several yoga studios and Soul Cycle locations in New York City have been known to charge you a no-show fee of up to $22, if you don’t sign out of a class or session at least one hour prior to your session.

When you think that the gym is trying to motivate you to actually show up, it’s not so ridiculous after all. I for one, would be in favor of my gym implementing this charge as a means of motivating me when I don’t feel like getting my ass up to work out.

What do you think about this?
