The world of beauty pageants is one filled with much criticism and intrigue. The strict rules and regulations for potential contestants often cause controversy, but not this time around.

Alexis Wineman, an 18 year old from Cut Bank Montana, is the first autistic Miss America contestant. At age 11, Wineman was diagnosed with pervasive developmental disorder and borderline Asperger’s syndrome, conditions that fall under the autism spectrum.

Her diagnosis, instead of hindering her, motivated her to try to pursue endeavors that she never thought she’d pursue before. Now, she’s ready to compete in the Miss America competition, which will be held this upcoming Saturday.

We wish her the best of luck and can’t wait to see the Pageants outcome.
