Scientists Create A Liquid That Can Detect And Highlight The Date Rape Drug In Drinks

Thank you, science.

Researchers at the National University in Singapore just announced that they've developed a way to detect GHB, a date rape drug in the same category as Rohypnol (you know it as "roofies").

The team concocted a liquid that women can add to the drinks in question.

If its contents contain the odorless and virtually-undetectable-to-the-human-eye GHB, the drink will turn a fluorescent color in under 30 seconds. The bright orange color of your drink will be a definite indicator that you shouldn't consume it, and that need to remove yourself from the situation ASAP.

It might be an uncharacteristically happy way to let someone know "Hey! You were almost just roofied!" but if it's effective, then no complaints.

Accessibility of this newly-developed liquid is definitely a concern, but the researchers have said they plan on creating and marketing a GHB test kit very soon.

Here's hoping that it fits in everyone's going-out clutches, and that women are encouraged to use them in any (sketchy or not) situation.
