Fearless Fashion: Winter Pattern Mixing

by Ally Batista

I often touch on the topic of mixing patterns and textures, and I feel as if the winter months are the most essential times to utilize contrast in your wardrobe.

The winter is a time when many of us fall into a rut. The days get colder and grayer, and all we want to do is throw on black head to toe and comfortable cashmere sweaters to get you through the dreary weather.

I assure you, that this is not the way to go. Yes, an all black outfit is beautiful and yes, cashmere and thick knit sweaters are a gift from the heavens above, but keeping your outfits simple and boring when the weather takes a turn for the colder can only push you further into your rut.

Challenge yourself in the morning. Mix two things together that you wouldn’t normally and see how your bold choice makes an impact on your mood. I always find that dressing up in the morning and challenging myself wakes me up and motivates me more. Don’t think I’m crazy, try it!

If you’re curious as to what you should try mixing during the winter months, stick to these thee patterns: stripes, polka dots and leopard.

Would you mix patterns this winter?
