Spotlight: The Skater Skirt

This is the time of year when most fashionistas start putting away their super summery pieces and start focusing on transition pieces that will appropriately fit in during that awkward in-between-seasons-time-of-year.

Inspired by the silhouettes of figure skater costumes, the skater skirt was an article of clothing frequently seen on the Spring/Summer 2012 runways. A personal favorite, the skater skirt is the perfect piece to either keep wearing, or add to your closet.

When choosing a skater skirt, I would recommend either a solid color, or a subtle print such as a soft floral or lace. The shape of the skirt itself draws attention to the wearer and a very loud print could be too much.  Once the temperature drops opt for a faux leather skater skirt, which will keep you in season.

Skater skirts can be dressed down in a tank top and a statement necklace, or can be work appropriate. Try pairing the skater skirt with a crisp button down, blazer, and dainty accessories for a more androgynous feel.
