J.Crew x CFDA

by Ally Batista

Designer to designer collaborations are one thing. You have two separate visions coming together to create a joint design. When a retailer collaborates with the CFDA, though, it’s a whole other ball game.

The CFDA essentially represents almost every major designer in American fashion. How does one collaborate with a multitude of design visions? J.Crew is about to try. Earlier in the month the news of the collaboration first broke, and now we’re finding out more information.

J.Crew decided to take the easier (and more lucrative) approach to this whole collaboration. As you know, the Target x CFDA collaboration, which featured designs from almost every CFDA designer, was an epic catastrophe. J.Crew is opting to tone down their collaborative ambition and focus on designing solely with this year’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists Jennifer Meyer, Tabitha Simmons and The Elder Statesman.

The collection, which debuts on jcrew.com May 22, features a wide range of pieces. Everything from Simmons’ pretty sandals to the Elder Statesman’s cashmere tops and blankets are J.Crew-ified with prints, such as the classic palm trees. Perfect for summer.

If you’re a fan of these designers and are highly anticipating this collection, you also have the ability to sign up on the retailer’s site for the opportunity to shop the collection a day early, on May 21.

My favorite piece:
