The Cure To Those ‘Blah’ Days

I’m having a ‘blah’ day today. You know, when your brain just doesn’t work, you can’t focus, you’re not getting anything accomplished, you’re tired, you lack energy, etc. I can go on and on with how many different ‘blah’ feelings I’m experiencing right now.

Unfortunately, I don’t have time to sit around and be ‘blah’ all day, although I would really like to. I need to re-energize, and re-focus, or else I’ll end up being stressed at the last minute, when I realize I haven’t accomplished anything.

How does one do this? Well, two new pieces of research are suggesting that working out regularly can substantially improve your memory, which boosts your brainpower, which eliminates that ‘blah’ feeling, and this proves to be true whether you engage in cardio or weight-resistance training.

However, there are different ways to attain your best brain boost. In the study, women who worked out on the treadmill had greater gains in verbal memory than women who worked out solely with weights (though both groups showed gains in spatial memory).

Another study, which was conducted on rats (so not comparing you guys to rats though), rats who ran in a wheel or lifted weights (how?), to the extent they were able showed increased levels of brain derived neurotrophic factor, a protein that supports the health of existing neurons and helps in the creation of new brain cells.

Basically, what are you waiting for? Get out there and get movin’.
