It Seems White Was The New Black At Last Night's Oscars Red Carpet
Dresses on the Oscars' red carpet were quite underwhelming last night.
There was no shortage of thigh-high slits, simple hair and monotone gowns. It seemed like every actress in Tinseltown decided to play it safe this year, not wanting to make the "worst dressed" list.
One thing we couldn't help but notice, though, was the overwhelming amount of white -- and no, Neil Patrick Harris, we're not referring to the celebrities. We're talking about the dresses.
While wearing white to the Oscars has been somewhat of a taboo, (it can come off too bridal), last night white frocks covered the carpet like a fresh snowfall.
Here are 12 of our favorite frosty looks from the Academy Awards.
1. Lupita N'yongo in Calvin Klein Collection
Lupita's Calvin Klein Collection dress was dripping with 6,000 pearls. The Oscars were her oyster.
She might have our vote for best dressed overall, if only because she dared to be different.
2. Reese Witherspoon in custom Tom Ford

Reese may have been wearing an inverted version of her 2011 Oscars dress, but the black details against the white canvas were tried-and-true flattering.
3. Marion Cotillard in Dior Haute Couture

As US Magazine points out, Marion does look like the sushi emoji in her white Dior Haute Couture dress with simple black lining. Just like sushi, however, we're still huge fans.

We aren't crazy about Nicole's crimson belt, but the glittering strapless gown and $7 million worth of Harry Winston diamonds are definitely Oscar-worthy.

6. Faith Hill in J. Mendel

The country star looked elegant and refined in a long-sleeved white gown with her singer hubby, Tim McGraw, on her arm.
The dress was simple and a bit underwhelming, but looked fabulously chic paired with her close-cropped 'do.
7. Lady Gaga in Azzedine Alaïa

Gaga celebrated prom again in a flowing, silvery-white Azzedine Alaïa gown.
The Twittersphere went totally bananas over her "dishwashing" red gloves, and we can't blame them. But, would you expect anything less from Gaga?
Would she really wear a white dress and not add some absurd gloves? Points for being true to herself.
8. Zendaya in Vivienne Westwood

Zendaya was looking far advanced for her 18 years in a dripping, silk white gown for her first-ever Oscars.
The slinky, off-the-shoulder dressed looked like it was made for her. And that hair? We're not embarrassed to admit this teenager is way cooler than we'll ever be.
9. Felicity Jones in Alexander McQueen

Felicity Jones came dressed to win an Oscar last night in a poofy silvery gown by Alexander McQueen.
While she may have lost out to Julianne Moore, she certainly delivered a compelling performance in the style department.
10. Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Zuhair Murad Couture

Jenna looked like angel in a simple Zuhair Murad Couture dress. Her hubby, clad in Dolce, made a great piece of arm candy. The two of them could have been the bride and groom on a wedding cake... only, you know, the sexy couture version.
