Powerful Women: Andrea Jung

Beauty products are an integral part of a woman’s daily routine. I think that the majority of us don’t actually realize how dependent we are on our products, so isn’t it convenient that retailers are willing to come to you to sell you your favorite beauty products? Andrea Jung is the CEO of Avon Products Inc., a company that does exactly that.

Andrea Jung is a Massachusetts native and a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University. In addition to being highly intelligent, Jung is also bilingual and fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Jung has had a successful business career. She first began work at Bloomingdales and has held positions at I. Magnin as senior vice president and general merchandising manager and was the executive vice president of Neiman Marcus for a short time.

In 1994 Jung joined Avon, an international manufacturer and distributor of beauty, household and personal care products that sells its merchandise via representatives in over 140 different countries. She started off as the company’s president of product marketing. IN two years she moved up to president of global marketing following with a position as executive vice president/president of global marketing and new business.

In November of 1999 Jung was promoted to her highest position; chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Avon worldwide. Although Jung does still maintain this position, on December 13, 2011 it was announced that Avon would begin a search for a new chief executive. Jung will play a role in choosing her replacement and will continue to serve as chairman of the board.

Jung also serves on the board of directors for other companies: General Electric and Apple.
