Although Facebook is currently experiencing some stock trouble, they remain one of, if not the, most well known and used website worldwide. A social networking website of this magnitude of course needs strong businesspersons to run it.

Sheryl Sandberg has been the chief operating officer of Facebook since 2008 and was also named the first woman to serve on its board of directors in 2012. Growing up in North Miami Beach Florida, Sandberg excelled at her schoolwork and was known to always be at the top of her class.

Her academic efforts paid off, Sandberg graduated from Harvard University in 1991 with a degree in Economics and the John J. Williams Prize for the top graduating student in economics. In 1993, Sandberg enrolled herself at Harvard Business School and graduated with an M.B.A. in 1995.

Sandberg holds an impressive resume. She has worked as a management consultant for McKinsey & Company, has served as Chief of Staff to Unites States Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers under President Bill Clinton and worked for Google.  At Google, Sandberg served as Vice President of Global Online Sales & Operations and was responsible for online sales of Google’s advertising & publishing products.

Sandberg joined the Facebook team in 2008 when the company was still in its earlier years. Her goal: to make the company profitable. With Sandberg’s help, Facebook agreed to advertising and by 2010 the company was profitable.

In addition to her job at Facebook, Sandberg is on the board of The Walt Disney Company, serves on the boards of Women for Women International, The Center for Global Development and V-Day.
