Sundance Film Festival: Ruled By Women
The Sundance Film Festival, for those of you who are unfamiliar, is an American film festival that annually takes place in Utah. It is one of the largest independent film festivals in the United States and is an opportunity for new work from American and international independent filmmakers to showcase their work.
Getting your film into the Sundance Film Festival is an amazing honor. The festival is highly competitive. For example, over 1,227 films were submitted for consideration for the January 2013 festival and only 16 were chosen.
This year, out of 16 selected films eight were directed by women, a Sundance record. Impressive! Some of the chosen female directors include some familiar names, Jessica Biel, Ellen Page and Kathryn Bigelow, to name a few.
