3 Reasons Why Women Will Never Stop Sending Nudes (And Why That's Perfectly Okay)

by Joshua Eferighe

Nudes, for men lucky enough to receive them, have been the staple of relationships, and celebrated achievements for the men who have managed to obtain them without agreeing to any commitment at all.

For men, nudes are the holy grail. Receiving a spicy picture of a girl, for a guy, is on par with golf, cigars and beer. It’s one of the aspects of life we’ve always relished.

There is just something about receiving a sexy picture from a girl that inspires a fascination, unlike nudes from men ever have, or ever will. People just don’t get as hyped about seeing men completely naked.

Now, we’ll send a picture baring it all in a heartbeat, but there's a drawing effect women have that makes the world stand still that men simply lack.

Way before we became the self-absorbed, selfie-crazed generation we are, we were using our photography skills to take carefully angled silhouettes of ourselves in the bathrooms of our parents’ house -- with the intentions of sending nudies to our high school crush.

In time, we matured, grew up a little and evolved into sending trashy nudes to our boyfriends and girlfriends as tokens of our, um, lust. Time has shown that nudes have always been around. But it wasn't until the mass leak of nudes exposing megastars by the likes of Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Ariana Grande, Gabrielle Union and more this past September, that the conversation became relevant again.

To be clear, there is a distinct difference between someone targeting your personal pictures -- which, according to Yahoo News, is how the celebrity nudes were leaked -- and voluntarily sharing them. However, the process has confirmed a truth that, I feel, leak or not, will stand the test of time: Women will always send nudes, and that is quite okay.

Trust

The first reason why women will always send nude pictures has to do with trust. Why should women be concerned with how they look or the content of the material when they trust the person they are with?

There are women who never, in a million years, thought they would send nudes and ended up sending them to their boyfriends. I’m also willing to bet the ones who didn't send them, had their boyfriends personally take them, instead. Women will always feel comfortable sharing themselves with you when they are comfortable trusting you.

The trust factor also applies to our precious gadgets. We often place a false sense of reliability on the shoulders of apps and devices such as Snapchat, Facetime and others. These gadgets, in most cases, have a way of storing images with the popularity of screen shots.

In the moment, the thought of pictures leaking or breaking up never seems to come to mind. The risk involved in sending and sharing intimacies is one that, a lot of time, we don’t consider until it’s too late.

Between indecent exposure and losing the respect of your peers, one would think the immediate satisfaction of sending highly sensitive material would be significantly outweighed by the potential consequences, but it’s a trend that seems to be growing with every new iPhone update.

The feeling of safety goes a long way, and as long as it's present in any type of partnership, the chances of exchanging nudes will be more likely than not.

Incentives

Nudes are an incentive for us guys. It's the doggy treat we’ll jump heights and wag our tails for. It brings us pride to receive them, and they are a treasure to keep. Naughty photos remind us of what’s at home; they could also entice the decision to settle into one.

Oftentimes, receiving and giving naked pics are just another element to an intimate relationship. Along with other adventures, nudes are something thrown in to keep the relationship spicy, which works for both parties in maintaining a healthy partnership.

Empowerment

Another reason why nudes will live on is because women love sending them. Women are just as sexual as men, if not more, and sending sultry photos is something they are more than willing to do. We are advancing more in more into a society that encourages woman to be more comfortable in the skin they’re in. As a result, women are doing just that.

Women with self-confidence feel like nudes are a way of owning their bodies and sexuality. Being free is being able to to share it with their significant other, not only because the men appreciate it, but because women appreciate their bodies,as well.

A lot of times, men don’t even have to ask. You might be surprised how many women send pictures to show they're thinking about their man, or just because. Gone are the times when women were condemned for showing skin; it’s becoming common for women to feel more confident in their bodies.

Many may argue that if someone is ashamed for people to know about it, that maybe she shouldn’t be doing it in the first place. Let me be clear: This is a ridiculous notion. The notion that the activities that take place in the privacy of our lives should hold in the light of the public eye is a theory that sounds better than it works.

Privacy, especially the privacy between two individuals, deserves a level of sanctity that, if not protected, should offend us. I think women who send pictures of themselves understand this and, therefore, are not ashamed to snap photos.

Nudes will always be a staple of communication between men and women, and the mass leak of celerity nudes proves it. For guys, this is good news.

For women, it means knowing you have the power and knowing to be wise when you use it.
