Two Basketball Stars Share Their Winning e.l.f. Lip Shades

And a few more can’t-miss beauty and style tidbits they keep on their roster.

Jayda Curry and Destiny Adams have had rebirths. As college basketball breakout stars ramping up their most fashionable eras, they’ve made it very clear that this pivotal moment is about embracing a new identity off the court that rivals the attitude they have on the court.

For Curry, that means challenging her effortlessly cool, SoCal roots with what she describes as an “aggressive alter ego” on the court. Adams’ ascension is more of a homecoming, as she marries powerful self-talk come game time with a love for glossy, conspicuous style. Hailing from different teams, the two unite over a shared love for the sport, street style, and e.l.f. Cosmetics’ Glow Reviver Lip Oil. Ahead, how their winning lip shades play off the court.

JAYDA CURRY

Curry intrigues us with the friendly, easy going personality that offsets the “more aggressive” nature she says she has while playing guard. Curry is a self-professed makeup novice, and under the watchful eye of her beauty and fashion-loving sister, finds her place in the world of cosmetics. “Simple is always better for me,” she says. It’s her lash extensions that keep her looks low-maintenance. It’s her braided hair, tied up halfway or in a high ponytail. It’s the e.l.f. lip oil, seen here in the brown-toned “Honey Talks.” The latter is the only must-have in her game day look. “The perfect game day look for me is just my hair done nicely without any makeup outside of something on my lips,” she says. “Before the game, we have tunnel walks with pre-game pictures and this lip oil is perfect for that. It’s so me.”

Not only does the lip oil highlight her stunning smile, but its nourishing ingredients like squalane and an oil blend that includes apricot, avocado, jojoba, and pomegranate will keep her lips looking ultra glossy and hydrated from the locker room to the court.

Her winning style motto these days is to keep it light. “I’m a total softie off the court. It took a lot of effort for me to learn how to be aggressive on the court, so I love keeping things easy and natural when I can.”

DESTINY ADAMS

Adams, for her part, has always gone for bold makeup and fashion looks. “Embracing street wear and baggy clothes has been big for me,” she says. “It doesn’t really matter what other people say is cool or trendy. I just have the mindset of wearing what feels genuinely good to me, and that’s the same confidence and composure I like to keep on the court, too.”

I love doing my full face of makeup along with my other teammates.

Her incredible style and athleticism as a guard-forward is matched only by the cool-girl makeup she taught herself to do. She has only two rules. Everything has to be glowy, and her freckles have to shine through. “It all starts with hydration for me,” she says. “I love when my look is smooth — not sticky. I love that glossy look, and that’s why I’ve been using the e.l.f. lip oil for ages. It’s a key part of my game day ritual.” She loves to rock the shade, “It’s Giving Guava,” a subtle pink tone that she says she could “literally wear all the time, everywhere from class to practice.”

Even on game days, when the whole team does their makeup together, one thing remains the same, and that’s her beloved lip oil. “I love doing my full face of makeup along with my other teammates,” she says. “It’s such a fun ritual and celebration in girlhood.” As they all get ready together in the locker room, they swap eyebrow pencils, double checking one another to ensure no eyeliner is smudged or contour is left unblended.

Her glossy pink makeup smacks of Y2K style, but Adams is making it her own with striking upgrades. In short, the courageous energy of her on-court personality has certainly trickled down to her style — or maybe it’s the affirmations she repeats to herself on the court.

In the thick of March Madness, college basketball’s most popular month of the year, rivaling styles is a surefire way to incite MVP inspiration. The duo is working off pure soul, with a nod to the distinct personalities they embody when they put on their uniforms. They’re also both clearly innovating, which is perhaps the best part of their shared love for e.l.f.’s hydrating, high-shine lip oil. And for those who like sparkle, there's the Glow Reviver Lip Oil Glimmer—the glimmering counterpart that delivers the same juicy hydration with a dazzling pop of sparkle. Available in eight sheer, shimmer-kissed shades, it’s the perfect way to add a little extra shine to any winning look.
