A few years ago, I was on a third date with a guy I had originally matched with on a dating app.
We were sitting outside at a restaurant on the water, when he asked my opinion on tattoos. Feeling like I had already known this virtual stranger for many moons (and not taking into account the fact that I had never seen his naked body), I decided to be honest.
"I don't really love them," I said, to which he responded, "I have three."
Needless to say, that romance ended pretty fast.
Obviously, whether or not you get a tattoo is always going to be a personal decision. But it's only natural to wonder what the person you're trying to attract really thinks about the matter.
Zensa Skin Care just conducted a study on over 1,000 people to see what men and women really thought about tattoos on the opposite sex:
What makes a tattoo cool?
Most guys (43 percent) agree that it's the artistry of your tattoo that makes it attractive.
So if you're trying to get a tattoo that brings all the BOYZ TO THE YARD, make sure it's not some tacky doodle by that sketchy dude with the 24-hour parlor around the corner from your apartment.
The second most important element when it comes to ~coolness~? Location, location, location.
Which brings me to my next point...
Where do (and don't) guys like to see a tattoo on your bod?
Most guys agree that the shoulder, the upper back, or the hip are the hottest places for women to have tattoos (all being rated a 3.3 on a five-point scale).
On the flip side, a face tattoo is (pretty unsurprisingly if you ask me) the least attractive to both men and women, being rated a 1.4 on the scale.
But OBVIOUSLY, if you grew up as a little girl dreaming of the day you could grow up and get a face tat, don't let some stupid boy's opinion change that! Go out there and get that tattoo, girlfriend!
Finally, what do guys think tattoos mean... sexually?
Almost half of the study's male respondents (42 percent) agreed they believe tattoos make people appear more sexually adventurous.
Around the same amount of them (46 percent) also agreed that the location of said tattoo had a big effect on how sexually active they perceived the person to be.
All right, so now you know what dudes think about your tattoos.
But, seriously, if you want one, just get one. And if you already have one, embrace it.
It's cool because YOU like it. And no one can take that away from you.
