Couples Describe The First Time They Said 'I Love You' And It's So, So Awkward

Saying "I love you" to your partner for the very first time is risky business.

There are just so many things that can go terribly wrong just by uttering those three words. I'm sure most of the awkwardness stems from the fact most people never know when it's the right time to say "I love you."

I mean, the last thing anyone wants is this reaction...

I'll admit, the first time I told my girlfriend I loved her, I was damn near shaking in my boots. No one ever wants to jeopardize their entire relationship over three measly words, but it's inevitable on a quest for true love.

In a new video uploaded to YouTube by Cut, we're introduced to a handful of brave couples willing to discuss the moment they said "I love you" to each other for the first time.

Everyone's story is different and some are far more embarrassing than others, but they all have one thing in common: The entire thing is totally awkward.

That's probably because there are a bunch of people who said "I love you" first and didn't get the response they were hoping for.

A prime example of this awkwardness comes when one couple is asked who said ILY first and a woman reveals,

I did, and then you (her boyfriend) said, 'Can I drive you home?'

Her now-boyfriend then honestly responded,

It scared me.

Ouch! That could NOT have been good for her confidence, but she at least kept it real. I would have probably taken that nightmarish memory straight to the grave.

To balance out the awkwardness, a few couples included in the two-minute video actually turned out to have handled the whole "I love you" revelation quite well.

For the most part, though, it's a cringeworthy masterpiece (just like the concept of love itself).

Something tells me a few of these couples are STILL arguing about some of the things that were said in this video. Tough love!

But look at the bright side. At least, you weren't asked to reveal the first time you farted in front of your partner and describe what that was like.
