5 Reasons A Mojito Is The Perfect Drink To Order On A First Date
I like to consider myself a bit of a mojito connoisseur, which really means I like to drink them a lot. I'll always order one at a new restaurant, just to see if it's up to snuff.
I'm actually not a huge fan of rum, but I absolutely love the taste of a mojito. It's flavorful and refreshing, which makes it the perfect summer drink to cool down with.
I'm all about the summer drinks. Hand me a pitcher of sangria and a good book, and I am a happy camper. Margaritas and sangria are essential drinks for hanging with your girlfriends while out on the town or lying on the beach, but the mojito is my secret weapon for one-on-one time with a cute new dude.
A mojito is the perfect — maybe even the only — drink to order on a first date. What expertise do I have to present such a bizarre hypothesis? I drink a lot of mojitos, and I go on a lot of first dates.
The mojito leaves your date wondering just what kind of girl you really are. It doesn't quite have "girly drink" status, but it's still a far cry from ordering a whisky on the rocks or an IPA. It's less pretentious than a glass of wine, and it's more adventurous than your standard light beer options.
The mojito trick works for men and women. It exists on its own lovely plateau of minty awesomeness, and no sane person can really judge you for that choice.
But, there are even more delightful benefits of being on team mojito.
Here is a quick rundown of how a mojito can seriously step up your dating game and maybe even secure you date number two:
1. Good Breath
You've literally been sucking down lime juice and chewing on mint leaves, so if that doesn't get you a fresh goodnight kiss, I don't know what will. (That is, if you're a kiss-on-the-first-date kind of gal.)
2. Less Potential Stains
A mojito is less likely to stain your lovely white dress that you wore specifically so he can picture you as a bride someday. As someone who continually wears white to show off my tan (despite always spilling my coffee on everything I own), this is a lifesaver. Trust me.
3. Guys always want to try a sip.
I have yet to order a mojito in front of a guy and not have him want to taste it. He'll always be a little embarrassed to try a raspberry margarita or something of that nature, but the mojito seems safe and still cool.
4. It goes down so easily.
So, you can drink it fast and order another if the date is going well, or you can peace out quickly if it's a disaster. I am the world's slowest beer drinker and as a result, I have been stuck on the worst dates for way longer than necessary or desired.
Plus, beer gets me drunk a lot faster. I can down a few mojitos like a champ and still keep my causal, first date self in check.
5. It's not a hard drink to make.
So after your date inevitably loves the one sip he took, you can sweetly mention you can make one even better. That's the only subtle hint you need for a second date. I actually haven't tried this one, but I'm currently googling mojito recipes while I write this so I'm prepared for this week's first dates.
And finally, what's thevery best part about drinking a mojito on a first date?
They are so frickin' good that you can sit there and drink one after another while flirting with the cute bartender, long after your date has gone home.
