What It Means To Dream About Getting Caught Having Sex, From An Expert

A while ago, I collaborated with famed dream expert, Lauri Loewenberg, to decode any and all of your freakiest sex dreams.  And I've had a guilty conscience about it ever since.

I know there are far freakier sex dreams than the 22 general concepts that are mentioned on that list. We all have deeply personal, weirdly detailed dreams that we sometimes just can't seem to shake out of our heads. 

Like, WHY did you dream about that guy from the grocery store yesterday? WHY was he wearing a top hat and nothing else?! What does it mean? Do you have to tell your boyfriend? Are you actually into the weird grocery store guy?!

So, I've decided to start a column. You guys can submit your sex dreams to sexdreamsanalyzed@elitedaily.com, and we will have Lauri interpret one dream a week.

This week's dream comes from 39-year-old Charlyn, who dreamed of horrible repercussions when she was caught having sex with a married man:

I was making love to a married man, when someone interrupted us. I went to speak with that person, then came back to the bedroom where the man and I continued to have unprotected sex. Then, we heard voices in the house. He went to greet them, only to have his in-law — my old classmate — come in, call me a whore and ask me to leave. I asked for my cell phone, and she had another school friend of mine bring my phone to me. The married man's wife was a cop. And at the end of the dream when I got outside, another cop with a gun was circling the property, looking for intruders.

Here's Lauri's interpretation:

I'm seeing a lot of signs in this dream that point to a communication issue in your real life... I mean, A LOT! First of all, sex in a dream can often symbolize communication — connecting with someone on a personal level. Have you recently had an emotional or psychological connection with this married man? If not, is there some quality he has that you need to take on as your own to be a better communicator?

You then go speak to the people that interrupted you while having sex. You hear voices in the house and the married man greets them. And then, you are insulted and ask for your phone, a device used to communicate. See? Tons of communication signs here. The intruders indicate some negative situation has intruded upon your normal, peaceful state of mind. And I'm betting, through this dream, you are trying to figure out how to get what's troubling you out in the open, which is why you go outside in the dream. There's ANOTHER sign of communication. The cop symbolizes your ability to "police" your own behavior in this matter, and he is circling the property because you are currently figuring out your next move. The gun is your emotional weapon and is a warning for you not to shoot from the hip when you finally do communicate your thoughts and feelings. The message is, when it comes to communicating what is bothering you, open honesty is the best policy, but think before you shoot off your mouth.
