The 'Mean Girls' Musical Cast Was Just Announced & It's So Fetch
Get ready, '00s movie lovers, because a Mean Girls musical is on its way. That's right, Cady Heron went from homeschooled jungle freak to shiny Plastic to most hated girl in the world to actual human being, and now she's onto becoming the star of a musical. It was announced earlier this year that Tina Fey would be writing the book for a Mean Girls musical adaptation set to premiere on Oct. 31 at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. We've been waiting patiently since then, and, finally, the official Mean Girls musical cast has been announced.
Erika Henningsen will star as the jungle-freak turned Queen of the Plastics, Cady Heron, alongside fellow Plastics Taylor Louderman as Regina George, Ashley Park as Gretchen Wieners, and Kate Rockwell as Karen Smith. All of the actresses taking on the iconic roles in the Plastics are no strangers to musical theater. In fact, all four leading ladies are Broadway veterans, which is likely where this adaptation will end up if its run in D.C. is successful. Henningsen is the youngest actress ever to play Fantine in Les Miserables on Broadway; Louderman is known for Bring It On: The Musical and is currently acting in Kinky Boots; Park starred in Sunday in the Park with George; and Rockwell has had roles in several productions including Bring It On, Rock of Ages, Legally Blonde, and Hair.
Aside from the popular Plastics, the musical will star Barrett Wilbert Weed as Janis, Grey Henson as Damian, Kyle Selig as Aaron Samuels, Kerry Butler as Ms. Norbury, Cheech Manohar as Kevin Gnapoor, and Rick Younger as Mr. Duvall.
Though I would love to see Lindsay, Rachel, and Tina up there shakin' that thang, this cast is insanely talented, which is good because they have some seriously big shoes (or big, pink polos) to fill. I wish I could write more about this amazing new cast, but I promised my friend Janis I'd go to her art show, so that's all I got for ya right now.
