Sabrina & Barry Reportedly Broke Up

Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan have been flirting, dating, and PDA-ing since late 2023, but it sounds like they put their romance on pause. Over a year after they were first linked, rumors of the couple “tak[ing] a break” surfaced in December.

Before fizzling out, Carpenter and Keoghan were one of 2024’s most talked-about couples. Whether he was doe-eyed watching her Coachella performance or she was casting him in her “Please Please Please” music video, they seemed like a perfect match.

Only a month before their reported split, Keoghan gushed about Carpenter in light of her Grammy nominations. "I'm in awe watching her work and how committed and the standards that she sets," he said on SiriusXM’s Jess Cagle Show in November. “Especially being on that music video. She knows the vision, she knows what she wants.”

Although details of the reported “break” are still emerging, there are rumors that they ended on bad terms. From their red carpet debut at the 2024 Met Gala to their reportedly messy split, here are all the major moments of Carpenter and Barry’s romance.

It Seems Their Romance Began At The End Of 2023

Romance rumors originally surfaced in September 2023, when Carpenter attended a special screening of Saltburn in New York City. It’s not clear if they met before or during the event, but it seems they officially crossed paths later that month.

On Sept. 28, both actors appeared at Givenchy’s spring/summer show during Paris Fashion Week. Similar to the Grammys after-party, they were photographed separately before appearing near each other later in the evening. Carpenter even seemed to describe falling for Keoghan at that event in her song “Bed Chem,” which describes what both of them were wearing on that day.

In December, the Daily Mail reported the two had a “romantic dinner date” in Brentwood. Then, a month later, they reportedly enjoyed some interactive art at the Luna Luna museum in Los Angeles. One source told People that their outing “definitely seemed like a date,” adding they “shared a little kiss” during the night out.

They Started Making Public Appearances In 2024

On Feb. 4, Carpenter and Keoghan appeared at W Magazine’s Grammys after-party. This sighting was surprising, as the “Nonsense” singer reportedly walked the red carpet of the awards show by herself. The rumored couple took a few photos together, including one that sees them both covering their faces with a wide smile. W Magazine later posted one of the pictures on Instagram, and the comments noted just how bashful the two were.

It wasn’t long until those photos appeared on X (formerly known as Twitter), and users were just as surprised to see them together. One fan even noted Keoghan had a lipstick stain on his cheek in other photos from that night. Then, five days later, Keoghan and Carpenter spent the weekend together in Los Angeles. Per E!, the couple were spotted sharing a kiss outside of the singer’s house in Hollywood Hills.

That’s not all, though. On Mar. 10, Carpenter and Keoghan were also seen at Vanity Fair’s Oscars after-party. The duo, who wore matching black glittered outfits, posed on the red carpet a few feet away from each other. While their surprise appearance was already notable, it was Keoghan stealing a few glances at Carpenter that made fans swoon. He was even heard apologizing for “being distracted” by her being next to him.

In another video, the rumored couple also took a photo together and held hands after leaving the red carpet. It’s clear they wanted to keep their PDA minimal in front of the cameras; however, that tune changed later that night. According to The Los Angeles Times, the two were “inseparable” inside the venue and Carpenter introduced him to “any friend she encountered in the crowd.”

Then on May 6, Carpenter and Keoghan posed for a few adorable photos together at the Met Gala. That wasn’t their only sweet moment from the night. The two were also seen speaking to other celebrities together inside of the gala, staying close but not overly affectionate. There’s also a video of Keoghan praising Carpenter’s “Espresso” as “amazing.”

Keoghan Became 1 Of The First Men Of The Eras Tour

On Mar. 3, Carpenter opened Taylor Swift’s second Eras Tour show in Singapore. In a video posted on X (formerly called Twitter), Keoghan can be seen listening to Carpenter’s “Nonsense” outro, which she personalizes for each show. In it, she sang, “He said that he wishes he was on me / Got me wetter than the Jewel Changi / Singapore I hope you like my song-y.” Keoghan smiled while watching her and joined in cheering for her when she finished the song.

There was also a sweet video of the duo hugging backstage once Carpenter wrapped up her set. Later, they watched the rest of the show together from the VIP tent.

This wasn’t the actor’s first time showing support for Carpenter’s Eras Tour shows. On Feb. 23, Carpenter joined Swift onstage and sang a mashup of “White Horse” and “Coney Island” for the crowd in Sydney, Australia. Carpenter shared the moment on Instagram a day later, writing: “9 year old Sabrina singing white horse would never see this sh*t coming! i love you so so so dearly taylor. always have always will.” Keoghan later commented the queen emoji under her post.

They Continued To Flirt Online

Carpenter became the face of a SKIMS’ campaign, and everyone shared their thoughts — including Keoghan. On Apr. 1, the “Feather” singer posted several photos of her wearing the new collection on Instagram, and her rumored boyfriend left a little flirtatious nonsense in the comments. He wrote, “barbie emoji” alongside a flame and parched emoji.

They Reportedly Ended Things In Late 2024

On Dec. 3, reports surfaced that Carpenter and Keoghan decided to put their relationship on pause so they could each focus more on their work. “They are both young and career-focused, so they've decided to take a break,” a source told People.

A few days later, a source told Entertainment Tonight that they were “definitely broken up.” According to an insider, “Things didn’t end well, and they are taking space form each other. Sabrina isn’t sad over the breakup and is staying busy and distracted.”
