The 2022 Met Gala kicked off, as always, with some fashionable flair, and one of the first couples to make a sartorial statement was Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. The husband and wife co-chaired the event and nailed the “Gilded Glamour” theme.

Among the first to arrive, Lively stunned in a custom Versace golden gown that was perfect for the “Gilded Glamour” theme, complete with a massive train.

Reynolds also nailed the “white-tie attire” theme of the big event, pairing his velvet tuxedo with a white vest and bowtie.

Lively’s gown was designed by Atelier Versace and it featured a dusty rose bow with matching opera gloves, along with gold detailing.

Lively completed the look with a golden crown and dangling, diamond-shaped earrings.

Lively’s dress also kept a very fun tradition for her alive. Every year, Lively is known for matching her Met Gala dress to the carpet, and her gown’s ruddy golden color did just that this year.

But Lively’s look was actually hiding a surprise. While walking the carpet, her gown’s bow details unfurled to reveal a full turquoise dress.

The fully revealed look featured an even larger train, flooding the Met stairs in seafoam.

Lively explained that the inspiration for her look was the Statue of Liberty, which explains the color combination. The golden brown and seafoam green colors are meant to channel the famous landmark when its metal oxidizes.

While Lively’s gown definitely stole the show, her hubby was certainly no slouch. Reynolds’ dark maroon tux perfectly complemented his wife’s dress, and was elevated with white accents.
