Celebs Are Outraged For Britney Spears After Her Explosive Conservatorship Testimony
She called the situation traumatizing.
The biggest celebrities in Hollywood are standing in solidarity with Britney Spears. On June 23, the pop star spoke out for the first time about the 13-year conservatorship under which she has very little control over her life. Fans had long promoted the “#FreeBritney” movement, vocalizing their concern that Spears has been taken advantage of with the strict conservatorship. Now, it seems the whole world is on board after hearing her remarks. All of the celebrity reactions to Britney Spears' testimony about her conservatorship were so supportive. Elite Daily has reached out to Spears’ team for comment but has yet to hear back.
Spears’ dad, Jamie Spears, has had control of her finances since 2008. A conservatorship is generally put in place when an individual is physically or mentally unable to manage their own finances, but fans argue that it’s meant to be a short-term crutch and Spears is being taken advantage of at this point. The #FreeBritney movement has been circulating the internet for years and reached new heights in 2021 after the release of the New York Times Presents documentary Framing Britney Spears.
According to Spears’ testimony, fans have been right all along. She called her conservatorship “abusive,” and said she was “traumatized” and “in denial” anytime she’s said she’s OK. “The people who did this to me should not be able to walk away so easily,” the singer said. “I would honestly like to sue my family.” Spears’ father responded to her testimony, per the Hollywood Reporter, saying he’s “sorry to hear she’s suffering and in so much pain” and “misses his daughter very much.”
Spears’ ex Justin Timberlake was among the many stars who spoke out after the shell-shocking testimony. “After what we saw today, we should all be supporting Britney at this time,” he said in one part of a lengthy statement. He also addressed Spears’ claim she’s being forced to have an IUD for birth control. “No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body,” he wrote.
Halsey also shared a sweet message of support on Twitter. “Bless Britney and I hope with my whole heart she is awarded freedom from this abusive system,” she wrote. “She deserves it more than anything. I admire her courage speaking up for herself today.”
“We love you Britney!!! Stay strong,” Mariah Carey tweeted.
In total, dozens of stars showed their support.
The decision to end Spears’ conservatorship is ultimately up to the court, but the internet has made its voice heard.
