Did I just dive back nearly two decades? Britney Spears and Madonna notoriously smooched during their performance at the 2003 MTV VMA’s, and oops, they’ve done it again. On June 9, the pair recreated the iconic lip-lock at Britney Spears and Sam Asghari’s wedding.
With these two pop stars in one building, this recreation simply had to happen. Photos from the sweet ceremony showed Spears, who sported a fringe-sleeved red minidress, leaning in to lock lips with the “Like A Virgin” singer, who rocked a vibrant abstract-printed wrap dress.
If iconic pop culture moments had a flip-book, this event would adorn the first page. At the 2003 MTV VMAs, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera graced the stage as surprise guests for Madonna’s performance of “Hollywood” and “Like A Virgin.”
According to Vogue, Spears and Sam did not share a first dance. Instead, the “Toxic” singer reportedly danced with other guests, including celebs like Drew Barrymore, Selena Gomez, and of course, Madonna.
It seems like Madonna has been interested in reviving that acclaimed peck for a while. According to Billboard, Madonna was asked earlier this year on Instagram Live if she’d do another world tour. Her answer was exciting.
Madonna quickly followed up her initial response by saying she “wasn’t sure” if Spears would “be into” the idea of remaking the kiss, according to the same report. Turns out she just might have been. Wow, the 2000s truly are back.
