When the 2021 American Music Awards kicked off on Sunday, Nov. 21, all eyes were on Cardi B. The rap icon was hosting the whole show after all, so of course she had to shut it down on the red carpet. Her unrecognizable look surprised everyone.

Of course, the buzziest part of Cardi’s surprising look was the golden mask she wore over her face. The surreal face mask was designed by Schiaparelli’s Daniel Roseberry.

To match her golden mask, Cardi also rocked huge golden earrings. The earrings were artfully shaped to look like an eye, with bejeweled fingernails dangling down them.

To make her show-stopping golden accessories really pop, Cardi wore a black gown. The elegance was complete thanks to the dress’ long train.

Since Cardi is known for her over-the-top nails, she obviously had to include long golden nails over her black gloves. The golden nails not only matched her mask but also her fingernail earrings.

Leave it to Cardi B to totally turn up the drama on an already shocking look. To add an air of mystery, Cardi wore a sheer black veil over her masked face.

Cardi usually loves to have a lot of fun with her hair, but for this look, all the focus was on her over-the-top facial accessories. To keep the attention where it needed to be, Cardi opted for a simple hairstyle.

As one final touch, Cardi B matched her extravagant mask and earrings with a slim, subtle golden headband. It was the last small detail that made her 2021 AMAs look the ultimate gold-and-black fantasy.
