Ashley Graham Pulls Off Sexy Lingerie At This Year's Met Gala
Just in case you've somehow managed to miss the countless Justin Timberlake memes, it's May 1.
Pop culture might revel in the glory of this *NSYNC appreciation day, but fashionistas are too busy creating their next memorable look at the annual Met Gala — and it looks like Ashley Graham is certainly up for the challenge.
This year's theme is Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons, the first living designer since Yves Saint Laurent to be honored at the mecca of all fashion events.
Andrew Bolton, curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute talked to Vogue about the designer and said,
By inviting us to rethink fashion as a site of constant creation, recreation and hybridity, she has defined the aesthetics of our time.
Graham, the 29-year-old Sports Illustrated model, chose to embrace the designer's deep appreciation for garments, and damn, does she look good. Who better to rock something sexy, right?
Graham's H&M off-white corset and red silk skirt are fastened together by hook-and-eyes and accentuated with silk organza ruffles.
"Each H&M look has been entirely custom-made, with both Kawakubo's creative world and the style of our guests in mind,” H&M's Head of Design and Creative Director, Pernilla Wohlfahrt said in a press release. "It has been our honor at H&M to create these looks."
Can we get one, too?
Back in 2008, HM launched a designer collaboration with Comme des Garçons, so I bet with a quick Google search, someone somewhere is selling an item from the collection you can get your hands on if you want to channel the designer's aesthetic.
As beautiful as Graham looks at the Met Gala, girlfriend can wear anything — or nothing — and still manage to look absolutely flawless.
Just a few weeks ago, she made a cameo appearance on Glamour Fashion Director Jillian Davidson's Instagram, flaunting her love of carbs with this number below:
Perhaps what's so great about Graham is the fact she can wear gorgeous couture or breakfast and feel comfortable in her skin.
The model told People,
I look in the mirror, and I have my affirmations. And mine are simple. [I say] 'You are bold. You are brilliant and you are beautiful.' And then if my lower pooch is really puffing out that day, I say 'Lower pooch you are cute.' And we have a moment.
Stunning and inspiring.
