Demi Lovato, our all-time favorite 21st Century songbird, is releasing her new album on Sept. 29, and fans everywhere are throwing their hands way up in the air. If you don't feel the music deep in your soul during a Lovato song, there is something seriously wrong with you. I know I feel a lot. I basically throw my whole body in the air when I hear her magical voice. It's a real talent. She's freakin' amazing, you guys. So, what's the meaning of "Ruin The Friendship"? Demi Lovato's new song has fans freaking out.

Based on the title alone, one can assume the song is probably about an ex-friendship or a past lover. It could also be about a friendship that turned into a romance. Lovato's songs always reveal a secret message for fans to analyze. You may interpret each song in a totally different way than another person, and that's the magic of her music. There are many layers.

Thanks to obsessed fans on Twitter, many people are drawing their own conclusions to "Ruin The Friendship." On Thursday, Sept. 28, Lovato shared a preview of "Ruin The Friendship" so fans could hear the lyrics for the first time. One part of the song goes,

Your body's looking good tonight, I'm thinkin' we should cross the line. Let's ruin the friendship. Let's ruin the friendship.

OK, now we have a better answer. The song is clearly about Lovato wanting to pursue a romantic relationship with a close friend, even though taking things to the next level could "ruin the friendship." For this reason, many fans believe the song is about Nick Jonas. The two have been best friends for years, but fans think Lovato has always wanted more.

Before Lovato dropped the preview, many fans believed the song could be about Selena Gomez. The two grew up together and used to be BFFs, but they had a mini falling out when Gomez became close with Taylor Swift.

In a recent interview with MTV, Lovato mentioned her new song is about someone her fans know. She explained: “Sometimes you put out music that you just feel like everyone is going to know who it's about,” saying, “Headlines are going to come out of it, and it's like, when you write a song, you're just being vulnerable, and you're just writing about something that's inspiring you, so all the baggage that comes with it is what I'm kind of nervous about.”

OMG. Could this quote be about "Ruin the Friendship"? Will we really know who the song is about? God, I hope so. I'm betting it's about someone totally unexpected instead of Nick Jonas. Sorry, everyone!

Lovato also explained,

I think that everything happens for a reason, and certain emotions are felt at certain points in your life, and you don't always have to explain them to people. So whatever you want to think about it — you go into whatever theories you have — fine. But I know what it's about and who it's about and I'm just going to let it be.

Woah. She is completely fearless this time around, and now I'm even more obsessed. Lovato, you got me intrigued. Tell me more!

In an interview with Noisey, Lovato further explained what, and who, "Ruin The Friendship" is about:

I was frustrated with a certain situation ... And I was like, 'You know what, I'm just going to write about it.' And so I did, and sent [the songs] to that person, and that was ... Interesting. Any time you send a song about the person, to the person—it's ballsy. It's like, 'Hey! Here's my feelings for you!' … They knew [about my feelings], but neither of us had acknowledged [them] before. And then it turned out that person had written a song about me, and we exchanged songs.

Hmmm, so this song is about another singer. Interesting. On top of that, the first line of the song reads "Put down your cigar and pick me up." As fans on Twitter point out, Jonas loves cigars, so this could be another major clue.

Here is the entire tracklist for Lovato's new album, Tell Me You Love Me. It's (clearly) going to be phenomenal.

1. “Sorry Not Sorry” 2. “Tell Me You Love Me” 3. “Sexy Dirty Love” 4. “You Don't Do It For Me Anymore” 5. “Daddy Issues” 6. “Ruin The Friendship” 7. “Over Forever” 8. “Lonely” 9. “Cry Baby” 10. “Games” 11. “Concentrate” 12. “Hitchhiker”

Based on her newly released songs, "Sorry Not Sorry" and "You Don't Do It For Me Anymore," this album is going to be absolutely perfect. Is it too early to mention the Grammy Awards? You totally deserve one, Demi. Come on! She's everything we need right now. She's a role model for women, and she's undeniably talented. I would never ruin the friendship. Let's be friends.
