Ruby Rose Opens Up About Gender And Her Choice Not To Transition

by Adam Pliskin

"Orange Is the New Black" actress Ruby Rose is one of the biggest breakout stars of the year, thus far.

She is also a major advocate for LGBT rights and a symbol of progress for the LGBT community.

But, Ruby wasn't always comfortable in her own skin, and from an early age, she wanted to have gender transition surgery.

She actually began saving money for the surgery when she was only 5 years old.

In an interview with "Access Hollywood," Ruby said,

I had this jar that I would collect dollars, in fact... it was probably cents, so I had like 19 cents to go towards this surgery that I didn't really know a lot about... I started saving probably from the age of like five and when I got to 15, that's when I got more into my body and I shaved my head and my mum was just like, 'I don't know what's going on right now, but if you are happy then do it.'

However, Ruby eventually had a change of heart and realized she just wanted to grow into herself and her own body.

She added,

I started to change the way that I dressed and talked and I realized that I didn't want to transition and I just wanted to be more comfortable in my own skin.

It seems to me like Ruby made the right choice. Keep on doing you, Ruby.
