Emma Watson Weighs In On 'Black Hermione' Controversy With Perfect Tweet

by Gillian Fuller

Emma Watson is literally a perfect human being.

The British actress — best known for portraying Hermione Granger in the “Harry Potter” films — recently tweeted her support for Noma Dumezweni, the Swazi actress slated to play Hermione in the upcoming play, “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

Watson's praise is the latest to silence the many haters who've insisted Hermione shouldn't be played by a black actress. Since the controversy first arose, JK Rowling and Matthew Lewis, who played Neville Longbottom, have also voiced their approval of the casting.

I, for one, couldn't care less what color the actress is, so long as she captures Hermione's spirit -- and with JK Rowling at the helm, I have full confidence she will.

Get more details on “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child,” which debuts in London this summer, here (and if you're going, you should know I'd be more than happy to take an extra ticket off your hands).
