Here’s the Euphoria Season 1 recap you desperately need in order to remember what happened to all the characters before Season 2.

HBO

Rue

Rue’s first act after leaving rehab was to get high. Her second was to fall in love with new girl Jules. Jules helped Rue get sober, but their complicated relationship left off when Jules left Rue at a train station, and then Rue relapsed.

Jules

Jules’ arrival in town was rough. She slept with Nate’s dad, Cal, then was catfished by Nate. Then, she started an intense friendship with Rue, but she also may have been in love with her ex. All this confusion led to her run away at the end of Season 1, abandoning Rue.

Lexi

Rue’s BFF Lexi may actually be in love with her, but it’s never explicitly confirmed. She spent most of Season 1 cleaning up after her messy friend, lending her clean pee to pass tests, and being there when things fell apart.

Cassie

Lexi’s sister Cassie was in a trainwreck relationship with her college boyfriend, McKay, who regularly treated her poorly. When she would up pregnant, her supportive mother and Lexi took her to have an abortion.

McKay

McKay was popular in high school, but was having a rough time trying to fit in with his college frat. After Cassie saw him get violently hazed, he took it out on her in a rough bout of intercourse. Soon after, Cassie realized she was pregnant.

Nate

Nate revealed himself to be an abusive partner to Maddy (who broke up with him by the end of Season 1), as well as a self-abuser. When he found out about his dad’s tryst with Jules, he went on to catfish her. He also called the cops on Fezco, leading to some dangerous events.

Maddy

Nate’s girlfriend asked if he’s gay when she found intimate male photos on his phone. He panicked and choked her, and they thankfully broke up. However, Maddy still had that tape of Cal and Jules’ night together.

Kat

Kat got intimate for the first time in the series premiere, only to have a tape of it go viral. Her response was to become a camgirl, figuring if people wanted to watch her, she might as well get paid. But after an encounter went wrong, she hung up her cam and got with Ethan.

Fez

Fez is a kindly college dropout who supports his young adopted brother, Ashtray. He’s a friend and a dealer to Rue and acts as the heavy when Nate threatened Jules. But Rue’s drive to get high concerned him so much, he stopped selling to her by the end of the season.

Rue’s Special

In the first “bridge” special due to Season 2’s delay, Rue met with her sponsor, Ali, who called her out on all her lies. It’s not clear if he got through to her, but for the sake of Rue’s mom and sister, fans live in hope Ali can make a difference in her life soon.

Jules’ Special

In the second special, Jules returned to town and went to therapy. She confronted how angry she was at Rue. She also contemplated going off hormone therapy. At the end of the episode, her relationship with Rue continued to flounder.
