Disney Reportedly Still Hasn't Found Its New Aladdin, Despite This Obvious Choice
It's not easy finding the perfect prince. Apparently, Disney has spent months trying to find the right actor to play Aladdin in its upcoming live-action remake, but the studio keeps coming up dry. What these casting agents need to do is open Twitter, because everyone is screaming the perfect Aladdin actors at them!
Production of the live-action Aladdin movie just got pushed back because Disney just can't seem to find the right male lead, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Apparently, the studio has already auditioned thousands of Middle Eastern and Indian actors in the last four months, and still hasn't found their Aladdin. Also, no word yet on if they've found a Jasmine either.
The news is baffling to most people on Twitter, who already have the perfect Aladdin star in mind. Twitter exploded with people pointing out that Avan Jogia, an actor of Indian descent best known for playing Beck on Nickelodeon's Victorious, is the clear choice to bring the street rat-turned-prince to life.
I mean, Jogia really does check all of the boxes. Not only does he already have a pretty uncanny resemblance to Aladdin, but he has also proven he can dance and sing on Victorious.
And it looks like Jogia would be down for the role. As Twitter was blowing up dream-casting him as Aladdin, Jogia posted a subtle wink to his fans that he noticed all the posts.
So Twitter has chosen its Aladdin, but what about Jasmine? The frontrunner online to star opposite Avan Jogia is Little Mix member Jade Thirlwall.
Clearly, Thirlwall can sing and dance, plus she's of Yemeni and Egyptian descent.
Though Avan Jogia and Jade Thirlwall are getting the most Aladdin casting noise online, some other interesting names are popping up as well.
People have also tweeted that Riz Ahmed, Dev Patel, or former One Direction star Zayn Malik would all make excellent choices. And for Jasmine, Quantico star Priyanka Chopra's name has come up more than once.
Clearly, there's a ton of exciting choices out there for the leads, but it's also possible that Disney will choose to go with unknown actors for the parts. I guess we'll just have to wait and see... and keep tweeting our ideas!
