HBO's 'Girls' Reportedly Won't Return After Season Six
Season five of “Girls” premieres next month, but Lena Dunham is already looking forward — to the end, that is.
According to E! News, HBO's hit series will be coming to an end after the sixth season.
Though the finale date has been set, it has not yet been made public.
The news of the “Girls” impending ending shouldn't come as a surprise for Dunham fans; the actress and writer has mentioned her desire to “end the series on a high note” multiple times.
During a radio interview with Elvis Duran last September, Dunham hinted at her desire to start bringing the series to a close.
She said,
We're starting to think about, sort of, how to wrap up the storylines of these particular young women. It's really exciting. I started working on this show when I was 23, and I'm going to be 30 so it kind of feels right that this show kind of sandwiched my 20s and then I go off into the world.
Dunham also told The Hollywood Reporter she hopes to end the series “in a graceful place.” It's the end of an era, guys.
"Girls" returns to HBO for its fifth season on Sunday, February 21.
